Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides is a bioactive ingredient that offers caring properties by improving the skin barrier function and protection against environmental stress. The unique combination of phytosterol esters and Canola glycerides offers improved penetration and incorporation of natural sterols into the skin's epidermal lipids. It is known under the trade name Lipex™ Cellect.

Scientific research has confirmed that natural phytosterols may protect the skin and cell membranes from environmental insults caused by various sources, such as UV radiation, chemical pollutants, unfavorable climatic conditions, and irritants. An in-vitro evaluation shows the anti-inflammatory properties of Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides. It decreased the inflammatory response induced by the pro-inflammatory agent (PMA) significantly—down to a normal level. The results confirm the shown anti-inflammatory effects of Canola-derived sterols and correspond well with the reported anti-inflammatory properties of phytosterols.

Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides is a safe ingredient for cosmetics based on highly purified food-grade ingredients that meet all relevant requirements. It has been proven to be non-irritant with good skin compatibility, non–phototoxic, and non-reactive with other ingredients. Storage stability tests indicate an excellent shelf life and hydrolytic stability. An evaluation of the oxidation stability of Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides under stressed conditions indicates excellent shelf life. During 15 months at 20 C°, the peroxide value was kept below 1.

The typical broad melting range and slightly amphiphilic character of Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides result in excellent sensory properties for skin care formulations. It is used in products fighting premature aging and daily-care products for sensitive and dry skin conditions.

Elegant emulsions of various consistencies can be easily formulated using standard emulsifier systems. The typical use concentration is 0.5-4 % in emulsions and anhydrous products. The relative pH-insensitive nature and soothing properties of Phytosteryl Canola Glycerides make it just as suitable for conditioning and cleansing formulations, deodorants, after-shave products, and mild hair care treatments.
