Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a spice used in oriental cuisine and medicine (traditional Chinese and Ayurveda) and as an ingredient in beauty preparations. It contains Turmerin protein with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Heptapeptide-6 is a synthetic peptide with amino acid sequence Gly-Tyr-Tyr-Glu-Leu-Asn-Asp-NH2 that repeats an active part of Turmerin and exhibits a broad spectrum of anti-aging effects on the skin. It protects telomeres, relieves inflammation, and fights against free radicals.

Telomeres play a crucial role in chromosomes; their length is an important indicator of cell aging. Heptapeptide-6 increases the expression and production of Telomeric repeat-binding factor 1 (TRF1) protein that is part of a protein complex (Shelterin) that protects telomeres. According to the inventor's claim, this peptide can increase or recover the length of telomeres, which decreases during each cell division (cellular aging).

In addition, Heptapeptide-6 enhances the production of catalase, an antioxidant enzyme responsible for destroying creative oxygen species (ROS), such as hydrogen peroxide, protecting dermal cells from oxidative stress. Moreover, it decreases Interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels and modulates inflammation-related genes, leaving a significant anti-inflammatory effect.

Known under the trade name Telessence Telmeric™, Heptapeptide-6 is an innovative, multifunctional, and practical anti-aging peptide for high-end applications for mature skin.
