Myristoyl tripeptide-31

Photoaging occurs via the clinical and histological effects of chronic sun exposure and is responsible for most age-related changes, including wrinkles, roughness, and hyperpigmentation. These age-related changes include collagen breakdown, loss of structural support and elasticity, and increased production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs).

Vitamin A (Retinoic acid and its derivatives) is widely used for topical therapy of many skin conditions and skin aging. Nevertheless, topical retinoids cause irritation and other adverse effects. In addition, retinoic acid has been classified as a prescription drug, which also precludes its use as a cosmetic ingredient.

Myristoyl tripeptide-31 is a bioactive multifunctional lipopeptide with retinoid-like effects on the skin. In vitro and in vivo study results show that this retinoic acid-like peptide is very effective in reversing photoaging-related changes, such as wrinkles, and mottled hyperpigmentation.

Myristoyl tripeptide-31 smooths fine lines and wrinkles of the face and body increasing collagen production. Its anti-aging action includes normalization of the response of skin against environmental stimuli such as UV irradiation. Incorporated in skincare products it can be an excellent alternative for retinol and retinoids without any side effects and in minimal concentrations such as 0.1%.
