Pentapeptide-48 is a synthetic peptide with the sequence Thr-Arg-Ser-Glu-Leu that repeats the active part of the Royalactin protein. Royalactin is a protein found in royal jelly and it is responsible for the epigenetic changes in the larvae's DNA, creating the queen bee phenotype. In short, it is a “Queen maker” protein with growth-factor-like action.
Mimicking Royalactin, Pentapeptide-48 interacts with receptors of human growth factors such as EGF and TGF-α boosting extracellular matrix (ECM) components production, dermal cell proliferation, and exhibiting significant anti-aging effect. It accelerates tissue regeneration, smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, and stimulates cell migration.
Pentapeptide-48 activates the elimination of old, oxidized, or damaged proteins by proteasomes, activating their function and cellular waste removal. Thanks to the "cellular cleaning" function, this peptide prevents the accumulation of oxidized proteins responsible for dull skin color, exposing a healthy, even, and radiant complexion.
