Balsam is a volatile, resinous substance that contains benzoic, cinnamic, or similar acids. The principal balsams are those derived from the Canadian fir (Abies Balsamea).

Balsam contains astringent and healing properties. It is often included in ointments and salves and has been used to treat several skin diseases.

Taken orally, it has been used as an expectorant and is considered beneficial in relieving internal soreness.

Abies Balsamea Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a pleasant balsamic odor. It is used in skin creams, lotions, ointments, toners, astringents, gels, and skin treatment products.
