Chinese Angelica (Angelica Sinensis) was given the title “Guardian Angel Herb” from the legend that an angel revealed Angelica in a dream to cure the bubonic plague. It was also believed that Angelica protected against contagious diseases, guarded against evil spirits, and bestowed a long life.

It was used in the Pagan era in rituals and in later times in Christian Festivals and was held in high esteem, being named “The Root of the Holy Ghost.” It is known in Traditional Chinese Medicine as Dong Quai and is a powerful Chinese tonic herb for balancing female hormones.

There are a few varieties of Angelica, but the most common is native to Northern Europe and Asia and grows up to 2-3 meters tall. It is a very ornate, aromatic, short-lived, biennial plant. The roots and leaves are used for medicinal purposes, and the stems and seeds are used in confectionery, flavoring, potpourri, and liqueurs. Essential oils obtained from the seeds and roots are also used in perfumes.

Angelica Sinensis Root Oil contains phytoestrogens and many vitamins, saccharides, and essential minerals such as vitamin B12, zinc, potassium, magnesium, iron, fructose, glucose, and sucrose, leaving beneficial effects on the skin. Angelica is the herb of choice for balancing challenges with female hormones and an ideal ingredient for breast enlargement formulas, thanks to its estrogenic action.
