This large and delicately fragrant flower usually opens between six and seven o'clock in the evening, hence the name Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis). Its astringent and sedative properties have been employed with success in treating gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, whooping cough, arthritis, and pre-menstrual syndrome.

Oenothera Biennis has been used externally to treat inflammation, redness, and itching of eczema and diaper rash. Research is currently being conducted into its potential use in treating alcoholism and multiple sclerosis.

Oenothera Biennis Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is soluble in water and can be used in any preparation.

Due to its strong moisturizing qualities, Oenothera Biennis Extract is used in lotions and creams formulated for dry skin and eczema. Evening Primrose extract can also be effectively used in conditioning shampoos, rinses, and sprays for hair. It is said to lay down a non-greasy luster and aid in detangling.
