Schisandra Chinensis Fruit Extract is a yellow to orange, oily liquid derived from Chinese berry grapes that restores the firmness of aged skin. It focuses on stimulating the synthesis of collagen XVII and Ladinin-1, boosting skin cohesion. These two important proteins of the dermal-epidermal junction (DEJ) are responsible for cell cohesion and elasticity between the dermis and epidermis.
In-vitro tests show that the Schisandra Chinensis fruit extract increases collagen XVII synthesis up to six times and Ladinin-1 production up to three and a half times. Tests on gene chips also demonstrate increased expression of the genes that encode the production of collagen XVII and Ladinin-1.
Schisandra Chinensis fruit extract can thus reinforce the dermal-epidermal dynamic cohesion that otherwise diminishes with age. In an in-vivo study on 17 women over 60, the skin’s elasticity and firmness significantly increased by 28% after twice-daily application of a cream containing 0.3% Schisandra Chinensis fruit extract over 56 days.
