Capsicum

Capsicum (Capsicum Frutescens), Cayenne, derives its name from a Greek word meaning 'to bite,' in alluding to the fruit and seeds' hot, pungent properties.

Cayenne (or Tabasco) pepper was introduced into Britain from India in 1548 and is considered to be a powerful, local stimulant that possesses the ability to reduce dilated blood vessels. The powder or tincture is thought to be beneficial to relax the uvula, aiding digestion and stimulating the appetite.

Capsicum Frutescens tincture was also used as a paint for chilblains.
