Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer is a terpolymer based on acrylic acid, ethyl acrylate, and N-t-butyl acrylamide, an anionic film-forming agent used as a hairsetting resin in hair spray applications. It is a rigid, relatively brittle polymer with a strong setting effect. It is white, free-flowing, fine granules or powder with a faint inherent odor.
Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer dissolves in the usual organic solvents commonly used in hair-care products, such as ethanol, isopropanol, and, upon neutralization, water/alcohol mixtures to give clear to slightly opaque solutions.
Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer forms a transparent, shiny, moisture-resistant film with an excellent hair-setting effect and good curl retention properties. Products with this polymer can be used in arid and humid climatic zones.
Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer is typically used in aerosol and pump sprays and setting lotions. Depending on the required hold, a concentration of polymer content can be 2 – 4 % (normal hold) or 4 – 6 % (strong hold). It can be formulated very readily with both DME and P/B as propellant.
