Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer

Functions
Film-forming agent
Fixative

Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer is an acrylate-based terpolymer for hair-setting preparations with excellent hydrocarbon compatibility. It is a fine, white, free-flowing granulate with a faint, characteristic odor.

Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer is is a prototropic polymer used as a film-forming agent in hair-care products, particularly hair sprays and setting lotions. It dissolves in organic solvents, e.g., ethanol and isopropanol, commonly used in hair-care products to give a clear to slightly opaque solution. The resin is practically insoluble in water; however, clear aqueous/ethanolic solutions can be produced with 100 % neutralized resin using at least 40 % ethanol.

A 3 % solution of the 80 % neutralized Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer gives a hard film that is nevertheless easily washed off. Completely neutralizing the resin can increase the film's elasticity. Even when Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer is 100 % neutralized, it absorbs little water, so it can be used in both dry and humid climates.

Safety tests of the Acrylates/T-Butylacrylamide Copolymer did not indicate any health risks for the concentrations used and the areas of application given. However, due to the large number of possible applications and the combination with other products, the user must carry out his product's safety assessment.
