Polyquaternium-5

Polyquaternium-5 is a conditioning polymer, a dry, cationic copolymer consisting of 4 mole % methacryloyloxethyl trimethyl ammonium methylsulfate (METAMS) and 96 mole % acrylamide. It is a white powder with a mild odor, and pH stability in the 3.0 – 7.0 range.

Polyquaternium-5 is a high molecular weight water-soluble cationic polymer that delivers exceptional lubrication and slip-in for skin and hair care products in low concentrations of 0.1-0.25%. Incorporated in skin care applications, it provides an exceptional application and reduced tight skin feel.

In hair care products, Polyquaternium-5 improves wet and dry combing, leaving a perfect application feel and enhancing manageability. It is also frequently used in lubricants for its outstanding slip properties.
