Sodium Carbomer

Sodium Carbomer is a sodium salt of carboxy vinyl polymer, a white hygroscopic powder. It is a synthetic pre-neutralized polymer used as a thickener, suspending agent, and emulsion stabilizer in personal care products.

Thanks to its viscosity-modifying property, Sodium Carbomer is widely used in cosmetic products. It simplifies the production process, has a constant pH, and quickly forms dispersions with high viscosity and clarity.

Contrary to traditional carbomers, Sodium Carbomer does not require pre-dispersion and thickens as soon as sprinkled into water or water/alcohol blend (up to 70:30), giving a clear, viscous gel. It has a good safety profile, is non-irritating for skin and eyes, and is non-sensitizing.
