Perfluorononyl Dimethicone

Perfluorononyl Dimethicone is a fluorinated silicone polymer, a clear liquid with a mild odor. The combination of fluorine and silicone gives excellent benefits to the skin.

Fluorine has the unique ability to form "breathable films" on a substrate such as the skin. Because of its chemical nature, fluorine makes a material such as silicone very hydrophobic and resistant to washoff.

However, the Perfluorononyl Dimethicone does not feel heavy or occlusive, as the fluorinated film lies on the skin and allows the skin to transpire through it. The fluorinated material then allows the skin to more effectively hold onto the moisture that it has, therefore improving the skin barrier function.

In addition, Perfluorononyl Dimethicone can be effectively used for pigment wetting. The compound is a flowable liquid that can coat pigment very thoroughly. The coated pigment then becomes more easily dispersed, and due to the presence of large amounts of fluorine in the structure, the water resistance property of the final product increases.
