Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter is extracted by mechanically pressing the Cupuacu seeds in a continuous screw press. Cupuacu (Theobroma grandiflorum) is a tropical plant that grows wild in riverbank regions of the Amazon.

The butterfat, mainly consisting of triglycerides, is then decanted and filtered. Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter is an analog of Shea Butter obtained from sustainable resources growing in the rainforests of Brazil.

Then, the raw material is processed with a unique method of partial butter refining. This operation enables the extraction of a Theobroma Grandiflorum seed butter that is completely colorless, free from any rancid smell, and resists oxidation. The final ingredient is a light yellow to white hard, greasy mass with a characteristic odor.

Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter has moisturizing properties and is very soft compared with other vegetable butters. It is velvety soft, and it does not make the skin shiny. Its use is especially recommended in preparing hair masks or lip care products.

Incorporated into skin care applications, Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter acts as an emollient to confer softness and a conditioned feel to the skin. It has a high water absorption capacity that is superior to Lanolin and offers extraordinary moisturization, helping restore the skin's hydration, smoothness, and elasticity.

Clinical studies were conducted to evaluate the butter's moisturizing properties using a prototype cream containing 5% Theobroma grandiflorum seed butter and a placebo to treat the legs of a panel of 20 volunteers. Moisture at the skin surface was measured with a corneometer before treatment and at scheduled intervals after treatment. The results showed that Cupuacu butter can decrease the amount of TEWL (transepidermal water loss) by up to 26% and keep skin hydrated for 6 hours.
