Dicaprylyl carbonate is a diester (double ester) of carbonic acid and caprylic alcohol (1-Octanol containing eight carbon atoms) and is a powerful performer in fast-spreading emollients.

The spreading properties of cosmetic emollients contribute strongly to an emulsion's sensory properties. Ideally, slow-spreading components are combined with fast-spreading and medium-spreading emollients in a spreading cascade to ensure no gaps in the smoothness spectrum.

Emulsions with Dicaprylyl carbonate always have a balanced sensory profile and thus provide an optimal skin sensation, achieved by comparing the subjective sensory assessment with various objective measurement methods. Furthermore, the utilization of the spreading cascade yields optimal results for numerous applications, from liquid emulsions for cleansing to treatment oils and creams, providing excellent results with stick formulation concepts.

Thanks to our P.I.T. (Phase Inversion Temperature) technology, Dicaprylyl carbonate produces water-thin, sprayable emulsions with very low viscosity, which can thus be applied by spraying. This fast and easy-to-spread emollient leaves the skin with a dry, velvety feeling.
