Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxystearate/Tetraisostearate is the tetraester of dipentaerythrityl and hydroxystearic acid/isostearic acid. This hydrophobic, occlusive, skin-conditioning emollient ester is similar to lanolin in feel and consistency.
Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxystearate/Tetraisostearate is a yellow to amber paste (at 25°C) without odor. It is insoluble in water and propylene glycol and dispersible with natural and mineral oils and ethanol. Its saponification value is in the 155 – 180 range; its hydroxyl value is 155 – 185.
Due to the presence of hydroxyl groups in the molecule, Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxystearate/Tetraisostearate exhibits an excellent water-holding capacity. These characteristics make it an ideal ester for lipsticks, high-performance creams, lotions, and decorative cosmetics.
Dipentaerythrityl Tetrahydroxystearate/Tetraisostearate is non-irritating and non-sensitizing for skin in cosmetic concentrations. Depending on the formulation type, its use levels vary from 1 to 10%.
