Sorbitan Caprylate is a preservative booster derived from renewable raw materials. It is a sustainable ingredient that assists the efficacy of preserving agents. In addition, it can serve as an emulsifier, emollient, or viscosity control agent (thickener).
Incorporating Sorbitan Caprylate into a formulation allows the drop of concentrations of preservatives needed to get the same efficacy. If used alone, it justifies the "preservative-free" claim in easy-to-preserve products. It is a versatile, multi-functional cosmetic ingredient used globally.
Sorbitan Caprylate is safe, non-sensitizing, and, therefore, suitable for all kinds of leave-on and rinse-off formulations and wet wipe applications.
Since it is not listed as a preservative, Sorbitan Caprylate is a consumer-accepted ingredient that can be added in any concentration in combination with other anti-microbiological actives to ensure safe preservation even of hard-to-preserve formulations like bio-products with high contents of natural ingredients.See also
