Sorbitan Olivate is a natural emulsifier derived from Olive oil for water-in-oil cosmetic formulations. It is also known under the trade name Olivem® 900, Due to its very particular molecular structure, it can be used as a functional lipidic system for silicone systems, make-up applications, and lipsticks.

To evaluate the ability of lipsticks to persist on the lips after application and to value its pleasantness, manufacturers have performed a test on a panel of 10 volunteers consisting of a single application of lipstick with Sorbitan Olivate and without Olivem 900 (control). The evaluation of long-lasting effects under controlled conditions, by the acquisition of digital images, allows us to conclude that the lipstick with Sorbitan Olivate obtained an average persistence score of around 45% with respect to the value obtained with the control at the same reading time. As far as preference is concerned, the lipstick with Olivem 900 appears to be preferred by the panelists for properties of hydration/emollience and lip comfort.
