Dipeptide-8 (Alanyl-hydroxyproline; Ala-Hyp) is a synthetic peptide initially found in hydrolyzed collagen mixture. It is one of the food-derived peptides in human blood detected after consumption of collagen-containing food, so Alanyl-hydroxyproline is a safe ingredient for skin care preparations.

According to a Japanese patent, Dipeptide-8 incorporated in skincare applications increases hyaluronic acid production improving skin's water retention, elasticity, and smoothness. Thanks to the molecule's small size and high compatibility, it rapidly adsorbs into deeper layers of the skin leaving its anti-action and serving as a building block for new collagen production.
