Euphrasia is derived from the Greek name of one of the three graces distinguished for her joy and mirth. Euphrasia officinalis was named for its ability to preserve eyesight, which brings gladness into the sufferer's life.

In Paradise Lost, the poet Milton relates that the Archangel Michael used eyebright to cure Adam's eye affliction caused by his eating the forbidden fruit. The eyebright herb was also used by the American Indians to cure inflamed eyes and improve eyesight.

The dried herb was once smoked to relieve chronic bronchial colds and is today an ingredient in British Herbal Tobacco. It has been used in eye lotions to treat conjunctivitis.

Euphrasia Officinalis Flower/Leaf/Stem Water is considered slightly tonic, astringent, and soothing. Its anti-inflammatory qualities make it useful as a remedy for colds, sinusitis, and catarrh.

Euphrasia Officinalis Flower/Leaf/Stem Water is a medium to dark amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is used in eye care lotions and washes, cleansers, moisturizers, shadows, and products formulated for sensitive or inflamed skin. It can also be used in astringent, toners, creams, lotions, and gels.
