Lesser Periwinkle (Vinca Minor) is native to the Mediterranean region and may also be indigenous in more northern parts of Europe. It is grown as a groundcover plant in gardens.

The generic name Vinca came originally from the Latin word vincio (= I bind / to bind), after the plants’ long trailing stems, which were once used for tying and binding. The flowering stems are also used medicinally.

Lesser Periwinkle contains substances that have soothing, healing, tonic, astringent, hypotensive, vasodilating, and diuretic properties. Because of its healing astringency and its “binding nature,” Vinca Minor Extract has been applied in lotions or decoctions to all kinds of skin eruptions, sores, irritations, and some forms of eczema.

Vinca Minor Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is used in astringent, toners, fresheners, lotions, moisturizers, creams, and skin-enhancing products. Vinca Minor Extract can also be added to shampoos, conditioners, and bath care products.
