Bis-Phenylpropyl Dimethicone

Bis-phenylpropyl Dimethicone is a high-reflective-index silicone fluid with the general formula RMe2SiO (Me2SiO) SiMe2R, wherein R=Phenylpropyl. It is synthesized by a hydrosilylation method, which results in a cost-effective, high-reflective-index silicone fluid. It offers similar application benefits with comparable physical properties to Phenyl Trimethicone.

Bis-phenylpropyl dimethicone is a non-volatile, low-viscosity silicone fluid with a relatively high refractive. The presence of phenyl groups results in its high refractive index and improved organic compatibility as compared to polydimethylsiloxane.

In comparison, Phenyl Trimethicone Bis-phenylpropyl Dimethicone has slightly lower viscosity but higher surface tension, which affects spreadability and the sensory profile.

In addition, Bis-phenylpropyl Dimethicone is a compatibilizer of organic/silicone formulations. It allows formulation chemists to incorporate cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone into formulations to achieve a co-emollient for a good skin feel and improved product stability. Due to the presence of a phenyl group in this material, it is also a compatibilizer for organic/organic systems, especially organic sunscreens.
