Oleth-20 is an ethoxylated (with 20 moles of ethylene oxide) oleyl alcohol, a white, waxy solid without odor (virtually odorless). Due to its significantly low odor, it is specified as a "fragrance grade" and is used as an oil-in-water emulsifier and solubilizer, especially for fragranced products.

Oleth-20 is an excellent nonionic emulsifier with an HLB value of 15.4. It is used to solubilize fragrances in a wide range of product types and applications. In addition, it is recommended as a superfatting agent in the formulation of gel systems that utilize carbomers.

As water-soluble, high HLB emulsifiers, Oleth-10 and Oleth-20 are extremely effective fragrance solubilizers, mainly when used together—the two exhibit synergistic effects when combined.

Oleth-20 can incorporate perfume additives at a concentration as low as 1-2% for each percentage of fragrance used, even when used as the sole solubilizer.

Derived from vegetable-derived alcohol, Oleth-20 is an easy-to-use and fully biodegradable ingredient for leave-on and rinse-off skin and hair care products. Depending on application, use levels range from 0.5% to 10.0%.
