PEG-150 Distearate is a non-ionic thickener and emulsifier produced through the esterification of polyethylene glycol and stearic acid (diester of a 6000 molecular weight polyethylene glycol with stearic acid).
It works very well as a primary or auxiliary emulsifier with an HLB value of 18.9 in body wash, conditioners, lotions, creams, and shampoo. It is added to the oil phase or surfactant phase and heated to 80-85°C(176-185°F).
Thanks to its high molecular weight, PEG-150 Distearate may function as a viscosity modifier, opacifying agent, and conditioning agent in hair and skin care products. Combined with PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, it is used to manufacture shampoo bases formulated with amphoteric surfactants.
PEG-150 Distearate is solid (in the form of white flakes) and is typically used at 0.2-2.0%. It is not irritating to the eyes or skin, making it ideal for baby care formulations. It is manufactured to meet the Orthodox Union (OU) Kosher requirements.Synonyms
