PEG-8 Laurate is a nonionic emulsifier created by esterifying high-quality lauric acid with polyethylene glycols. It is a clear liquid soluble in water; the pH of a 3% aqueous solution is in the 4.5-7.0 range, with an HLB value of 12.8.

PEG-8 Laurate is oil-soluble and works well in nonaqueous systems. It is compatible with many amphoteric, anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants and acts as both primary and secondary emulsifier.

In personal care applications, it functions as a conditioner, emulsifier, emollient, lubricant, opacifier, pigment dispersant, spreading aid, and viscosity-modifying agent. PEG-8 Laurate is used in products such as bath oils, conditioners, creams, lotions, makeup, ointments, shampoos, and sunscreens.

It may also be used in bath products as a spreading enhancer. PEG-8 Laurate may be used as an emulsifier in the development of clear microemulsions, contributing emollience to the final product.
