Polyurethane-1

Thanks to their various types and properties, polyurethanes are among the most versatile polymers used in many industries. Polyurethane-foamed seats, soles, electronic devices, balls, and ski boots are made from them.

Polyurethane-1 is a polymer ingredient formed expressly for hairsprays that satisfy VOC standards and is used as a hydroalcoholic microdispersion. It is a polyurethane comprised of polyesterdiols, neopentylglycol, aminomethylpropanol, isophorone diisocyanate, and dimethylolpropanoic acid.

Water typically weakens a hairspray’s holding power by raising viscosity in high-solids formulations. Polyurethane-1's unique polyurethane chemistry and structure allow the formulation of 55% VOC hairsprays with low viscosity at high solids content.

Providing an excellent spray pattern, Polyurethane-1 exhibits a very short tack time during drying. It gives hold and curl retention equal to or better than conventional resins, does not flake, and is highly compatible with different solvents and propellants. It permits high solids in water-based formulas with no significant increase in viscosity.

Test data shows that Polyurethane-1 exhibits a concise degree of tack during drying and low tack when drying. It imparts a smooth feel and flexibility to the hair. It exhibits good shampoo removability with no visible residue. It provides excellent hairsetting effects, particularly in curl retention and holding power.
