VA/Crotonates Copolymer is a vinyl acetate and crotonic acid copolymer, an anionic film-forming agent for hair-setting applications. It is typically used in aerosol and pump sprays, lotions, and foam hair fixatives. It is distributed as transparent, fine beads with a weak characteristic odor.

Depending on the required degree (normal to strong) of fixation, VA/Crotonates Copolymer is used in 3 – 6 % concentrations. It provides good fixation and satisfactory curl retention. However, it is limitedly compatible with propane and butane, so dimethyl ether is often used as a propellant in aerosol sprays.

VA/Crotonates Copolymer may be combined with other polymers in order to modify the properties of the hair-setting formulations as required. The properties of this polymer varied over a wide range by altering the degree of neutralization.
