Soluble Collagen

Soluble Collagen has been developed utilizing a variety of marine species that are rich in essential minerals and have excellent moisturizing and film-forming properties. It is also made from cattle hides using a weak acid/neutral salt extraction process. Careful process control ensures excellent yields and an economical source of soluble collagen for cosmetics.

Soluble Collagen has a molecular weight of over 300,000, three polypeptide chains are twisted into a characteristic triple helical structure of collagen. It is the "monomer" from which all collagen in the body is made. Marine and animal-derived soluble collagen provides moisturizing benefits for both skin and hair. It retains large amounts of water, improves skin elasticity, and has excellent film-forming properties.

Due to its unique molecular structure and high molecular weight, Soluble Collagen has the ability to form skin-smoothing, highly moisture-retentive films on the surface of the skin. The topical application will help restore dry skin to normal and due to its ability to hold moisture on the surface, will plump up the skin improving its flexibility and turgor. Soluble Collagen provides physiological protection to the surface of the skin characteristic of soluble proteins.

Soluble collagen is the basic building block from which all the collagen in the body is made, and the dermis is responsible for the "plumpness" and turgor of the skin as a whole. When it is topically applied, it will cause the epidermis to plump up (due to additional hydration), mimicking the effect of the collagen of the dermis.

Soluble Collagen can be used to help alleviate dry, flaky skin. It may sediment upon standing. It is used 3-6% in creams and lotions. Products containing this ingredient should be stored o­nly at temperatures below 30°C. It is used in preparation with a pH value between 3 to 9 as it is an amphoteric colloid that is made close to its isoelectric point; it will thicken up if the pH is changed up or down.
