PEG-12 Dimethicone

PEG-12 Dimethicone is a copolymer of polydimethylsiloxane and polyoxyalkylene ether. This combination gives this type of ingredient unique properties. It is clear to hazy and colorless to straw liquid.

Aqueous and non-aqueous surface tensions of organo-modified silicones are lower than conventional organic surfactants. PEG-12 Dimethicone is readily soluble and stable in cool water, and lower alcohols, and exhibits surfactant-like qualities. It boosts foam and acts as a moisturizer and de-tackifier.

PEG-12 Dimethicone imparts lubricity and softness in a wide range of personal care products. Due to its water solubility, it enables clear product formulation. In shampoo, it enhances foam quality and stability.

It is used in many types of products, including hair sprays, hand lotions, antiperspirants, mousses, roll-ons, shaving aids, foundations, creams, and conditioners. PEG-12 Dimethicone is basically non-hazardous and has a very low order of toxicity, although contact with the skin or with the eyes may cause irritation.
