PEG-8 Dimethicone

PEG-8 Dimethicone is a nonionic silicone wax, a water-soluble dimethicone polyethyleneglycol block copolymer. It is a white wax with a melting point of 36 – 49°C. Its former designation was Dimethicone Copolyol.

The wax can be diluted with water to the desired concentration in an application, and its water solubility can be varied for specific formulations. PEG-8 Dimethicone is used in all emulsions, such as lotions, creams, moisturizers, shampoos, conditioners, and deodorants. It is also helpful in clear gels and solutions.

PEG-8 Dimethicone is used for the detackification of any polymeric-thickened system and can be incorporated successfully into translucent or transparent formulations. It is an excellent water-soluble emollient that will contribute softness and slip to any skin care formulation and also conditioning and moisturization to any hair care formulation.

Because of its emollient properties, PEG-8 dimethicone moisturizes the skin. It improves the skin's feeling by detoxifying the ingredients in a formulation. It can also be used in cleanser formulations to enhance foam and density.
