Lanolin oil is the lower melting point esters (liquid fraction) of lanolin, derived from the wool of sheep. It has a very characteristic odor.

Lanolin oil is incorporated in many skincare applications as an emollient, conditioner, and moisturizer. It has limited water-in-oil emulsifier properties. The typical use is 2-10% in skin care preparations such as creams and lotions.
