Nelumbium Speciosum (or Nelumbo Nucifera) is also known as sacred lotus, Indian lotus, or sacred Water-lily. From ancient times lotus has been a divine symbol in Hindu tradition, associated with creation, mythology, and the gods Vishnu, Brahma, and Lakshmi.

The lotus flower is a symbol of pureness, rising out of the muddy water pure and beautiful. The leaves remain clean due to a natural cleaning mechanism. Because of the surface structure of the leaves, water droplets roll off at the leaf’s surface, taking dirt with them. This is known as the Lotus Effect.

In Buddhist symbolism, the lotus represents the purity of body, speech, and mind. The Buddha is often illustrated sitting on a giant lotus leaf or blossom.

Nelumbium Speciosum flower extract contains many valuable components, such as carbohydrates, proteins, organic acids (Vitamine C), and phenols, which have a hydrating and nutritive effect. It also has an astringent and purifying effect, making Lotus extract especially suitable for oily or mixed skin.

Nelumbium Speciosum flower extract is an opalescent clear yellow liquid of characteristic odor, soluble in water, and insoluble in oils.  It is used in moisturizing skincare applications for face and body care as well as hydrating treatments for oily skin and men’s face care.
