Microcrystalline cellulose is purified, isolated colloidal crystalline cellulose derived from fibrous plants. It is a white, free-flowing powder that is odorless and insoluble in water. Microcrystalline cellulose is porous and can carry a high load of both aqueous and oily products while exhibiting exceptional compressibility.
Due to its unique size and shape, microcrystalline cellulose is also used as an exfoliating scrub. Enhancing the texture and application of soaps, pressed and loose powders, and scrubs is recommended.
Colloidal Microcrystalline cellulose provides physical stability or rheology control to formulations at low-to-medium viscosity. Because of its convenience of use, excellent toxicity profile, and wide compatibility, it can be readily incorporated into formulations. Specific applications include emulsions, sprays, foams, and decorative cosmetics.
