Balsam Peru Oil possesses an earthy, exotic, and lingering all describe this woodsy-vanilla-like scent. It is derived from a large tropical tree Myroxylon Pereirae up to 80ft (25m) high, with a straight smooth trunk, beautiful foliage, and very fragrant flowers. Myroxylon Pereirae oil is obtained from exposed lacerated wood after strips of the bark have been removed.

The monocarp of the fruit is fibrous, and the balsamic juice, which is abundant, is contained in two distinct receptacles, one on each side. Balsam of Peru is warm and aromatic, much hotter and more stimulating than Balsam of Copaiba, and is used for similar complaints.

Myroxylon Pereirae essential oil is used for its properties: stimulant, expectorant, parasiticide, asthma, bronchitis, nervous tension, stress, rashes, and eczema.

Historically, the Balsam of Peru is used as a fixative and fragrance component in soaps, detergents, creams, lotions, and perfumes. It stimulates the heart, increases blood pressure, and lessons mucus secretions; useful for respiratory disorders such as asthma chronic coughs, and bronchitis.

Myroxylon Pereirae oil complements when blended with ylang-ylang, patchouli, petitgrain, sandalwood, rose, spices, and floral and oriental bases.
