Ylang-ylang oil is sweet, exotic, sensual floral. Ylang-ylang (Cananga Odorata) is a tall tropical tree up to 65ft (20m) high with large, tender, fragrant flowers, which can be pink, mauve, or yellow.

Yellow flowers are considered best for the extraction of essential oil. Ylang-Ylang is from the first part of the distillation process and is considered by most to be the best. Cananga Odorata flower's essential oil has properties: aphrodisiac, anti-depressant, anti-infectious, antiseborrheic, antiseptic, euphoric, hypotensive, nervine, regulator, sedative (nervous), stimulant (circulatory), and tonic.

Historically, Ylang-ylang oil has been used for cosmetic and hair care, skin diseases, to prevent fever, and to fight infections. Is also used to soothe insect bites.

Cananga Odorata flower oil blends well with lavender, sandalwood, rosewood, jasmine, vetiver, opopanax, bergamot, mimosa, cassie, and rose. Ylang-ylang is generally a safe ingredient, it is non-toxic, non-irritant and a few cases of sensitization have been reported.
