Shikimic Acid is a natural polyhydroxy acid (PHA) obtained from Japanese star anise (Illicium Verum; also called Shikimi). It is a multifunctional active ingredient that promotes cell renewal and exhibits antioxidant and antimicrobial activities.

Shikimic acid inhibits lipase enzyme activity lessening the production of fatty acids with unpleasant odor and acting as a deodorant agent. It reduces the activity of the lipase enzyme, being effective in preventing axillary bromhidrosis (hyperhidrosis with the company of a bad smell) and reducing the unpleasant odor of the armpits.

Shikimic acid promotes cell renewal, improving the appearance of the skin through its gentle exfoliating action (natural peeling effect). It eliminates dead, dull, and pigmented cells from the skin's surface revealing a fresher, youthful, and radiant appearance.

It also has antimicrobial activity against acne- and dandruff-inducing microbes. Effectiveness against Malassezia furfur yeast and Propionibacterium acnes proven with multiple scientific studies. In addition, Shikimic acid has noticeable antioxidant properties. It effectively scavenges free radicals preventing cell damage and delaying skin aging.

Shikimic acid is a natural, safe, and effective ingredient for skin and hair care formulations, with the aim of preventing aging and improving general skin condition. In addition, it is perfect for deodorant applications.
