Dicaprylyl Ether is a dioctyl ether, a colorless and odorless oily liquid with low molecular weight and low polarity. High-purity dioctyl ether is not susceptible to oxidation and is readily biodegradable. It is stable over the wide pH range (3-11).

The most notable feature of Dicaprylyl Ether is its fast and high spreading power and emolliency. It is a light emollient used in many personal care products to reduce the tacky effect of the greasy filling of natural oils, some active ingredients, and polymers. It also provides a quick-drying effect and improves the sensory profile of formulations.

Dicaprylyl Ether is a slightly polar solvent for oil-soluble active ingredients. It also helps disperse pigments, such as those used to prepare makeup and sun protection products. It also decreases the melting point of oils, fatty alcohols, and waxes and modifies the viscosity of some materials.

Dicaprylyl ether is compatible with many water-in-oil emulsifiers, UV filters, pigments, and silicones, and It is used in many sun care applications and decorative cosmetics. In deodorants and antiperspirants, it reduces the sticky effect and “white stain.”

Incorporated in hair care applications, Dicaprylyl Ether acts as an emollient that adds shine, improves combability, and enhances the antistatic effect. It is also a suitable solvent for hair fixatives and conditioners, and in low concentrations, it is an effective shine and lubricity agent in shampoos.
