Diisopropyl Sebacate is the diester formed by the reaction of isopropyl alcohol and sebacic acid, and it is completely synthetically derived. It is a hydrophobic, clear, colorless, low-viscosity liquid at 25°C with almost no odor.

Diisopropyl Sebacate is insoluble in water and miscible with natural and mineral oils and common cosmetic solvents like ethanol or propylene glycol. Its saponification value is in the 380 – 400 range.

Diisopropyl Sebacate has the peculiar property of dissolving salt deposits. It is particularly useful in preventing “whitening” in underarm stick deodorants and antiperspirants. Its safe and emollient nature also makes it worthwhile in light skin lotions and creams. It is non-irritating to the skin and eyes.
