Homosalate (Homomenthyl salicylate or HMS) is colorless liquid oil-soluble phenolic compound, an effective UVB filter (in a range of 295 to 315 nm wavelength), and solubilizer for other UV absorbers (including solid filters) enhancing the entire SPF of the formulation. It is an ester of Homomenthol (3,3,5-trimethylcyclohexanol) with salicylic acid.

Protecting skin from the UVB spectrum of damaging radiation, Homosalate minimizes the short- and long-term harmful effects of sun exposure. It is a worldwide approved filter for sunscreens that can be combined with a wide range of liquid and solid filters.

Without reported adverse effects, Homosalate is one of the most popular and safe UV filters used in water-resistant sunscreens.
