Isononyl Isononanoate is an ester of 3,5,5-Trimethyl Hexonic acid with 3,5,5-Trimethyl Hexonic alcohol, with a highly branched structure and low molecular weight. It is a low-viscosity emollient and lubricating agent with excellent spreadability. As a skin conditioner, it imparts a dry, non-oily smooth after-feel to the skin.

Isononyl Isononanoate promotes slip and also helps to improve the esthetic characteristics of creams and lotions by modifying the feel of heavier emollients and occlusives. Thanks to its quick-drying property, it is a good replacement for volatile silicones, which allows for “skin breathing”.

In composition with oils such as mineral oil, petrolatum, and wax bases, Isononyl Isononanoate reduces greasiness. Thanks to unique characteristics, it got the nickname “silk oil“. It has excellent solubility and compatibility with other ingredients, which makes it an ester of a choice for many skin, body, sun, and lip care applications.
