Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is a diester of stearic acid with polyglycerol (3 moles), a nonionic emulsifier for cosmetic oil-in-water emulsions manufactured by reacting polyglycerol esters of defined composition with stearic acid. It is a white or slightly yellowish powder with a faint fatty acid odor.

Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is miscible with water and can be used in solvents with a wide range of polarities. However, with an HLB value of 9/±1, it is particularly suitable for use with vegetable oils, e.g., peanut oil, sunflower oil, and avocado oil.

Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate exhibits excellent physiological compatibility. It is used in face and body creams for dry and greasy skin as well as in sun protection preparations.

Depending on the type and quantity of the oil phase ingredient, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate produces stable O/W preparations with 2-5% concentration. It is suitable for PEG-free formulations.
