Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a mild surfactant designed for cleansing products. It is nearly salt-free and resistant to hard and salt water with high foaming properties. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is compatible with other surfactants and gives excellent lime-soap dispersibility to retard the formation of scum in bar soaps.

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a fine, white powder, soluble in soft or hard water at all pHs. It is stable in formulations at near-neutral pH and room temperatures for extended periods but will gradually be hydrolyzed at high temperatures. It is naturally derived from coconut and is considered "readily biodegradable," according to OECD Guidelines. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a mild surfactant often used in soap bars, shampoos, and bubble baths. It provides a dense, creamy lather.

Applications

Soap bars

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is used in "combo bar" applications at levels of 2 – 60% to provide lathering in hard or soft water, similar to soaps in soft water. Its dense lather is additive to that of soap. Such mixtures are mild to the skin and are relatively non-drying.

Shampoos

The properties of Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate also make it an excellent cleansing agent for shampoos. Besides compatibility with hard water, good cleaning properties, and excellent lathering, it imparts softness and manageability to hair.

Bubble baths

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is recommended for use in bubble baths as a high-foaming agent. It provides longer-lasting suds, even in the presence of soap, and is mild to the skin.
