Pentapeptide-13

Pentapeptide-13 is a synthetic peptide that mimics the human Agouti-signaling protein (ASP or ASIP) action. This peptide is also known under the trade name CG-ASP.

Agouti-signaling protein is an antagonist to the alpha-Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) as it binds to the same receptor MC1R (melanocortin 1 receptor) on the melanocytes. The balance between ASP and α-MSH regulates the color of skin and hair, as the Agouti-signaling protein responsible for phaeomelanin (lighter melanin with yellow to red color) and α-MSH for eumelanin (darker melanin with brown to black color) production.

Stimulating Agouti and decreasing α-MSH activity, Pentapeptide-13 effectively brightens the skin without inhibition of melanogenesis. In comparison with other skin-whitening peptides, it has a different and unique mechanism of action, making the skin lighter and providing a healthy, bright, and radiant complexion.
