The seeds of the Urucum tree (Bixa Orellana) are known for their ability to protect the skin from free radical damage.  Traditionally used to treat wounds and burns due to its anti-inflammatory properties, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract is ideal for use in cosmetics because of these same abilities.

The unsaponifiables from the seeds are the world's richest source of tocotrienol, a member of the Vitamin E group, known to be more effective in preventing damage caused by free radicals.  It is from these seeds that Bixa Orellana Seed Extract is derived.

A popular combination for protection of the skin from the damage caused by UV light is Vitamin C and Vitamin E (typically tocopherol) in conjunction with a UV filter.  The tocotrienol in Bixa Orellana Seed Extract outperforms tocopherol, as proven by the results of a clinical study.

Cells treated with Tocotienol (found in Bixa Orellana seeds) and UVB showed 63 % less damage than cells treated with UVB alone.  This is 11% less damage than cells treated with tocopherol and UVB, showing that Bixa Orellana Seed Extract protects skin better from UV damage than the standard Vitamin E on the market.

Providing natural sun protection that is more effective than tocopherol, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract is used in a wide range of products, including anti-aging, sun care, baby care, and anti-pollution applications.
