Large quantities of fresh Kola (Cola Acuminata) seeds are employed in Africa for their sustaining properties. They are an important article of inland commerce in Africa. A small piece of Kola nut is often chewed before a meal to promote digestion. It is also thought to improve the flavor of anything eaten after chewing the nut.

Kola nuts contain more caffeine than coffee berries, so they are often taken as a stimulant to prevent fatigue and relieve pains of neuralgia and headaches. Due to its astringent properties, the powder of Cola Acuminata seeds has been used on cuts to stop bleeding.

Cola Acuminata Seed Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is entirely soluble in water in any proportion.

Cola Acuminata Seed Extract is used in astringents, skin care creams, lotions, toners, gels, moisturizers, and bath care products. The presence of Xanthines can help reduce the irritation of cosmetically active ingredients such as alpha—and beta-hydroxy acids.

Also, Cola Acuminata Seed Extract potentiates the activity of sunscreens, permitting a lower concentration of organic sunscreens for a given SPF. Kola nut extract is an astringent, lipolytic, stimulant, tonic, and vasoconstrictor.
