Yerba mate (Paraguay tea; Ilex Paraguariensis) is primarily cultivated for the leaves and is esteemed as an aromatic, stimulating beverage with a somewhat bitter taste. Reported to be astringent, mildly analgesic, stimulant, and sudorific, meaning to cause sweat, mate is a folk remedy for rheumatism and scurvy.

Paraguay tea naturally contains a high concentration of Theophylline and other xanthines, making it ideal for use in skin-smoother thigh creams.

Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract is a light to medium yellow liquid with a characteristic odor. Paraguay Tea is used in astringents, skin care creams, lotions, toners, gels, moisturizers, and bath care products.

The presence of Xanthines can help reduce the irritation of cosmetically active ingredients such as alpha—and beta-hydroxy acids. Also, Paraguay Tea extract can potentiate the activity of sunscreens, permitting a lower concentration of organic sunscreens for a given SPF. Ilex Paraguariensis Leaf Extract is astringent, lipolytic, stimulant, tonic, and vasodilatory.
