Bee balm (Monarda Didyma) is native to North America and was discovered by the American Indians who called it Oswego; they used it as a remedy for colds, sore throats, and chest complaints and as a cure for dandruff and pimples.

Herbalists have recommended infusions of bee balm to relieve coughs, sore throats, nausea, and menstrual cramps. Modern scientists have found that the oil extracted from Monarda Didyma contains thymol, which is considered an antiseptic against fungi, bacteria, and some parasites.

Thymol is used as an ingredient in ointments and powders, which are applied externally to fungal infections and internally as an antiseptic for the stomach and intestines.

Monarda Didyma Leaf Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. It is used in skin creams, lotions, toners, ointments, gels, and skin treatment products. It can also be used in bath care products and in shampoos and conditioners formulated for dandruff control.
