Orchid (Orchis Mascula) was once a popular nutritious drink found in cafes on London's Fleet Street. The tuberous part of the plant was used as a food supplement because of its high levels of active constituents and, in many countries, was likened to the potato for its food value and versatility.
The roots were thought to contain an aphrodisiac and were used in sexual therapy to rejuvenate hormones in the aging population. Externally, the extracts were used in emollients to stimulate the skin.
Orchis Mascula Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. The extract of orchid is used in creams, lotions, toners, and astringents designed to stimulate the skin.
