Valerian (Valeriana Officinalis) is regarded as a calmative in nervousness and hysteria and has been used for at least 1000 years. Many valerian products, often in combination with other sedatives of plant origin, are produced, marketed, and widely utilized in Europe.
Other afflictions that Valerian has been credited with curing include bruises, coughs, croup, the plague, hypochondria, epilepsy, some forms of fever, and most diseases of the nervous system.
Valeriana Officinalis Root Extract is a light to medium amber liquid with a characteristic odor. Valerian root extract is used to soothe bath and skin care products, skin creams, and after-sun care products. Its sedative qualities can also be used in first-aid ointments.
